Stuck Between Options? Your Values Are the Missing Piece. A Practical Guide.
You’re facing a decision.
You’ve done the research, asked for advice, and weighed the risks.
But still, something isn’t clicking.
Both paths make sense. Neither one feels like a full yes.
This is when your Values Identifier report becomes a tool, not just a resource.
It can help you move from feeling stuck to making a grounded, confident decision.
Here’s how to use it when you’re at a crossroads:
Step 1: Identify Your Top Values
Start with the values listed in your Values Identifier report.
Focus on the ones that feel most relevant right now. You might already know which ones matter most in this decision, or you might need to revisit your report to reconnect.
Look at the personalized definitions in your report. These go far beyond labels. They describe how each value shows up for you, what you want, need, and expect because of that value, and how it shapes your choices.
Ask yourself:
Which of these values do I most want to honor in this decision?
Step 2: Define What Each Value Looks Like in This Situation
Use the insights from your report to make each value personal and actionable. Your report gives you descriptions, wants, needs, expectations, and even blind spots. Take a few minutes to apply these to your current decision.
For example:
- If you see Loyalty in your report, how would that play out here? Are you considering people who’ve supported you, or opportunities that let you build trust?
- If you have Financial Security, does one path offer long-term stability while another requires more risk?
- If you value Independence, which option allows you to make your own choices or protect your freedom?
This step helps you stop thinking in general terms and start connecting the decision to what matters most to you.
Step 3: Compare Your Options Using Your Values
Now, hold each option up against the values you’ve just explored.
Ask:
- Does this path reflect the values I want to live by?
- Which option honors more of what I care about?
- Is one option asking me to compromise something I’m not willing to let go of?
Use your Values Identifier report as a lens, not a scorecard. You don’t need a perfect match. You’re looking for alignment. You’re asking which option supports the kind of person you want to be, not just the outcome you hope to reach.
Step 4: Notice What Feels Authentic
After walking each option through your values, pause.
Which one gives you a sense of relief?
Which one feels heavier, and which one feels more like you?
This is not about certainty. It’s about clarity.
Often, one option starts to feel more settled. That’s your values showing up.
Trust what feels aligned. Not because it’s the easiest path, but because it’s the truest one.
A Question to Reflect On
What decision would you make if your values had the final say?
